Aerial Boom Lift

Scissor LiftThis course will provide the participant with the necessary theoretical knowledge of proper elevated work platform operation.  It is the first part of a two-part requirement to become a qualified aerial work platform operator.

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with legal requirements set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations for Industrial Establishments.
  • Review company policy and procedure related to the various lifting devices – scissor lift, platform lift and genie boom.
  • Read and understand all limitations, warnings and operating procedures and operator’s responsibilities for maintenance of the equipment.
  • Learn the limitations on the kinds of surfaces for which the various lifting devices are designed to be used.
  • Understand and be familiar with the Operating Maintenance and Parts Manual and Operator’s Manual provided by the manufacturer for the specific make and model he or she will be using.
  • Review fall protection as required by company policy and procedure for lifting devices.
  • Complete written assessment to determine retention of knowledge.

Scissor LiftUpon successful completion of the theoretical component the participants will be required to complete a hands-on evaluation. This evaluation will provide the participant with the opportunity to apply the previously learned theoretical knowledge to the proper operation of an aerial work platform. This is the second part of a two-part requirement to become a qualified aerial work platform operator.

Participants will:

  • Recognize and understand all limitations and warnings, operating procedures and operator’s responsibilities for maintenance of the equipment.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the Operating Maintenance and Parts Manual and Operator’s Manual provided by the manufacturer for the specific make and model he or she will be using.
  • Learn how to apply employer’s rules and any government-related regulations.
  • Demonstrate his/her ability to understand and properly operate the work platform as shown by a qualified person.
  • Please note, all new operators must complete a minimum of 4 hours of supervised practice time on the elevated work platform before a practical evaluation can be completed.
  • Each practical evaluation will require up to 30 minutes to complete.
