This hands-on training will provide the participant with the opportunity to apply the previously learned theoretical knowledge to the proper operation of an overhead crane. This is the second part of a two-part requirement to become a qualified overhead crane operator
Participants will:
- Demonstrate that they have retained and understood the information covered in the theoretical portion of the program by participating in a practical overhead crane assessment including; conducting pre-use inspections, checking the set-up, planning, raising, moving and lowering loads.

To ensure overhead crane operators are evaluated in accordance with competency-based training principles and Canadian safety standards.Policy Statement

Practical evaluations are not intended to serve as initial hands-on training for new operators. Operators must demonstrate baseline operational familiarity with the crane and associated lifting tasks prior to undergoing a formal practical evaluation.Minimum Readiness Expectations

Employers are responsible for ensuring workers receive adequate supervised familiarization prior to evaluation.
- Up to 30 minutes per person
- A wallet card will issued upon successful completion
- Please note all new operators must have a minimum of 4 hours of supervised practice time before being assessed. Supervision must be completed by a competent person.
